In fact the speed limit on a Defender seems to be the low gearing more than anything else: At anything above 80mph you're starting to fall off the back of the engine's power curve. If the gearing was slightly higher (like, say, with a Disco transfer box) it would make more effective use of the power that it's got. Jack. Hans demonstrates the removal and re-fitting of a new water pump on a Land Rover Discovery 300 TDI. Timing belt changes - some useful tips. Toothed rubber timing belts were used on many Land Rovers through the 1980s and 90s, including Defender (2.5 diesel and turbodiesel, 200 and 300TDi), Discovery and Range Rover (200 and 300TDi). The belts are pretty sturdy and designed for a long life - change interval is either 60K or 72K depending on model. One half (small bronze bush) was in the oil line rest must have gone through No1 cylinder. Not a mark on the head or piston but the piston is now 2mm lower than No 4 with a slight S bend in the con-rod. Not sure I can remove it up the bore. Might get away with one new con-rod & a turbo. The turbo fins are chewed up but the casing looks OK. paul123. Extreme Landy Fan. Site Donor. Nov 28, 2017. #1. 300tdi suddenly hard to start it seems as if it starts on 2 cylinders then 3 then 4 much the same as if it has air in the system or fuel is syphoning back . is there a one way valve in the system that suddenly fails . nothing has been apart or changed any ideas. Here it is: The alarm/immobiliser system of the 300Tdi consists of 3 main components : 1)The small hand transmitters. 2)The alarm control module, attached to the firewall behind the speedometer, and. 3)The immobiliser control module, situated inside the battery box under the front passenger seat. TgT9b. The 300Tdi are noticeably smoother and quieter than the 200Tdi, but are generally found to not be quite as economical in real-world use. I am intrigued how the 300Tdi is supposed to be a better motor with far less problems.I think the 200Tdi has less inherent problems. And being not as smooth isn't a problem,it's in a Defender. Just because the cooling system isn't pressurising doesn't mean the head gasket isn't leaking. There are several ways it can 'blow'. It's quite common for the timing belt to be fitted one tooth out on the 300TDi engine, and I've done it a few times in the past, but it's always noticeable once it's fitted as you have to turn the engine clockwise back to the timing marks and check them. Today is final fitting of the engine, with its flywheel housing and clutch assembled, onto our custom motor mount brackets. After this video, we will start Here it is: The alarm/immobiliser system of the 300Tdi consists of 3 main components : 1)The small hand transmitters. 2)The alarm control module, attached to the firewall behind the speedometer, and. 3)The immobiliser control module, situated inside the battery box under the front passenger seat. The easiest option to increase power if you have a genuine Defender version of the 300TDi is to fit a Discovery fuel injection pump (+3 kW for free) or even better an EDC fuel system (+10kW). The latter will take you to 90kW, which is as far as the 300TDi can go before you start to undermine the durability of the engine (cylinder head sealing
