All petrol en diesel engines in the Defender are mild hybrid engines. Both the P300 and P400 are nice engines and pleasant to drive. The P300 is impressive in a sense, it never suffers from little engine, big car syndrome. You do however have to flog it more to move the heavy Defender. The P400 has more power to spare.
